The site was formerly home to a commercial building. However, the construction of a few doors down caused such significant structural damage that the Chelsea building had to be vacated and the popular local restaurant Tre Dici was forced to close. The city issued a stop-work order for the site in question and approved the demolition of 128 West 26, proving that sometimes the only way to solve a problem is to start completely afresh. The property is now ready for a 14-story building designed by Panagiotis Vikatos and developed by Gary Vinbaytel.
